October is the busiest time of year for sports betting in the United States. This is the month when all four major North American pro sports leagues – the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL – are officially underway. But it’s pretty rare to see all four leagues in action on the same day. It happened last Thursday for just the 17th time in history, and it’s going to happen again this Sunday. Here’s a quick preview of some of the games you can bet on at Bovada, all times Eastern.
MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at Houston Astros (8:16 PM, FOX)
With the Astros winning Game 2, Game 5 of the 2017 World Series is a guarantee. The Dodgers are –130 favorites on the World Series odds board heading into Friday’s Game 3.
NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers at Detroit Lions (8:30 PM, NBC)
The Steelers (5-2 SU, 4-3 ATS) are one of the most popular teams on the NFL betting board, and at press time, they’re 3-point road favorites for the flagship broadcast of the NFL, Sunday Night Football. The Lions (3-3 SU and ATS), meanwhile, are coming off a bye week, but will that be enough time to get healthy after so many injuries?
NBA: New York Knicks at Cleveland Cavaliers (7 PM)
These two high-profile teams look a lot different than they did last year. The Knicks traded Carmelo Anthony to Oklahoma City, and the Cavaliers sent Kyrie Irving out the door to Boston. Will LeBron James end up starting at point guard on Sunday? NBA betting fans want to know.
NHL: Anaheim Ducks at Carolina Hurricanes (8 PM)
It’s been an upside-down start to the 2017-18 season. After five straight Pacific Division titles, the aging Ducks are one of the worst teams in NHL betting this year. The young Hurricanes, meanwhile, are looking strong for the first time this decade. We’ll see if the torch gets passed on Sunday.
