Chalk is the buzzword heading into Week 3 of the NFL season. There are two games coming up this Sunday where the favorites are laying over 20 points; there have been only nine games since 1978 (when the NFL betting odds were first compiled) where the spread was this large – and two of those games were during the 1987 player’s strike. These might not be the most competitive matchups on the Week 3 schedule, but they’re definitely the featured games on this week’s top 10 list.

2019 NFL Week 3 Best Odds and Matchups

1. New York Jets at New England Patriots (Sunday, 1 PM ET, CBS)

The Patriots were responsible for four of the nine games in question, three of them during their near-perfect 2017 campaign; they went 0-4 ATS. At press time, the defending champs are 24-point home favorites on the NFL odds board for Sunday’s game against the Jets, who are down to third-string QB Luke Falk after back-up Trevor Siemian was lost for the year with torn ligaments in his ankle.

2. Miami Dolphins at Dallas Cowboys (Sunday, 1 PM ET, FOX)

Except for 1987, the Cowboys have never been favored by 20 points or more, but they’re laying 22 points in this contest. At least the Dolphins won’t have the longest odds on NFL Sunday this week, after failing to cover as 19-point road dogs during last week’s 43-0 loss to the Patriots. While the Jets have been ravaged by injury, Miami’s pain is self-chosen; the Fins are in full-on tank mode this year – and maybe next year, too. They traded DB Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday for a first-round draft pick.

3. Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs (Sunday, 1 PM ET, CBS)

This should be an excellent matchup between Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson and Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes, but the NFL lines still have the Chiefs favored by seven points. The 55-point total is the highest on the board for Week 3.

4. Los Angeles Rams at Cleveland Browns (Sunday, 8:20 PM ET, NBC)

The Browns set the template for Miami with two years of tanking under GM John Dorsey. After putting away the Jets last week, Cleveland have a much tougher game coming up against the Rams, who are laying 3 points in The 216.

5. New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks (Sunday, 4:25 PM ET, CBS)

With QB Drew Brees (torn thumb) expected to miss six weeks of action, Teddy Bridgewater will lead the Saints into the Pacific Northwest as 4.5-point underdogs. The Seahawks are 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS at home versus New Orleans dating back to 2000.

6. Pittsburgh Steelers at San Francisco 49ers (Sunday, 4:25 PM ET, CBS)

QB Ben Roethlisberger hurt his elbow in last week’s loss to Seattle and won’t play again this year – if ever. Mason Rudolph gets the nod this Sunday in San Francisco, where the Niners are laying 7 points.

7. Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars (Thursday, 8:20 PM ET, NFL)

Thursday night’s as good as any to bet on the NFL, and this will be one of the tightest matchups for Week 3, with the Titans favored by just 2 points and the total set at 39 – the lowest on the board this week.

8. Denver Broncos at Green Bay Packers (Sunday, 1 PM ET, FOX)

It’s almost a miracle that the Packers are 2-0 SU and ATS, but the Matt LaFleur-Aaron Rodgers Era has yet to suffer defeat, and they’re in pretty good shape as 7.5-point home favorites on the NFL betting lines for Week 3.

9. Carolina Panthers at Arizona Cardinals (Sunday, 4:05 PM ET, FOX)

This game might be competitive, but the line is off the board at press time as the Panthers decide whether QB Cam Newton (foot) will be able to play Sunday. If Newton isn’t ready to go, Kyle Allen will get the start opposite Arizona’s promising rookie pivot, Kyler Murray.

10. New York Giants at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sunday, 4:05 PM ET, FOX)

It had to happen sometime. QB Eli Manning’s 15-year reign as New York’s starting quarterback will end this Sunday when Daniel Jones takes the reins in Tampa Bay. But it’s the ugly Giants’ defense that has them getting 7 points in Jones’ debut.
