Online Roulette Rules

 

In basic online American roulette at Bovada, there are 38 numbered “stops” on the roulette wheel where the ball could land and come to rest. The numbers are 1-36 (colored red or black), along with 0 and 00. To start live roulette, the wheel is spun and then a ball is rolled along an outer track in the opposite direction. Eventually, it loses speed, bounces along, and falls into one of the stops or “pockets” labeled with a particular number/color. If the ball lands in a stop that corresponds to what you placed your bet on, you win.

 

 

Roulette Bets & Odds

 

When playing online roulette, there are a number of bets that are available, all of which come with different odds. The bets are split into two categories: inside bets and outside bets.

 

Inside Bets & Odds

 

Inside bets refer to the bets that are located on the inner of the table; betting on numbers. The inside bets, at a roulette table, have higher odds and payouts compared to outside bets, however, have less chance of winning. Here’s a breakdown of roulette’s inside bets and their odds:

 

  • Straight Up Bet: A straight up bet is one of the most common bets placed at a roulette table. You simply bet on the number you think the ball will land on after the spin. This is the highest odds bet you can place in roulette with a 35:1 payout. 
  • Split Bet: A split bet is when you place a bet on two adjacent numbers. For example, you could place your bet between numbers 23 and 24. If the ball lands on either number, you win. The odds for this type of bet are 17:1. 
  • Street Bet: A street bet covers the row of 3 numbers. For example, on the roulette table, numbers 22, 23 and 24 are next to each other in a row. You can place a street bet that covers these 3 numbers; paying out at 11:1.
  • Corner Bet: The corner bet allows you to bet on 4 numbers at once. As an example, you can place your wager on the corner of numbers 20, 21, 23 and 24. If the ball lands on one of the 4 numbers, you win at 8:1 odds.
  • Five Bet: The five bet covers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 by placing your wager at the corner between 0 and 1. As this includes 00, this particular bet can only be placed on American Roulette. The winning payout for a five bet is 6:1.
  • Line Bet: A line bet is similar to a street bet, however it covers 2 rows of 3 numbers as opposed to just 1 row of 3 numbers. To place a line bet, you place your wager at the end of and between the two rows you wish to cover. The winning payout is 5:1.

 

Outside Bets & Odds

Outside bets can be found on the outer edges of a roulette table and are lower risk, lower reward bets compared to inside bets. As opposed to betting on a specific number, you are betting on a broader category of outcome types. Let’s take a look at a roulette’s outside bets and odds:

 

  • Column Bet: A column bet covers just short of ⅓ of the roulette numbers. You are betting that the ball will land on any of the numbers in the column you selected. The odds for this type of bet are 2:1. 
  • Dozen Bet: A dozen bet also allows you to cover just short of ⅓ of the roulette numbers. Rather than covering a column of numbers, you can cover the 1st 12 (1-12), the 2nd 12 (13-24) or the 3rd 12 (25-36). The payout for a dozen bet is 2:1.
  • Color Bets: Color bets are the most common bets associated with roulette; the good old ‘red or black?’ with an almost 50/50 split. If you bet on red, you are hoping for a red number to land and vice versa for black. The winning payout for a color bet is 1:1. 
  • Even or Odd Bets: Similarly to a color bet, with an even or odd bet, you almost split the odds down to 50/50. If you place your bet on even, you are hoping the ball will land on an even number, if you bet on odd, you want the ball to land on an odd number. The odds for this bet are 1:1.
  • Low or High Odd Bets: Once again, this type of bet splits the odds to nearly 50/50. You can either choose to bet on low (numbers 1-18) or high (numbers 19-36). If your bet wins, you receive a payout at 1:1. 

 

Roulette Strategies

With how many different betting options there are when playing roulette, there are a fair amount of different strategies you can follow. However, here are the most popular roulette strategies explained:

Martingale

The most popular online casino roulette betting system is known as the Martingale. Each time you lose, you double the money in your bet. Eventually, you will win again and recoup what you’ve wagered. You will run into the issue of table limits, though! This tactic can get out of hand fast when you’re on a losing streak so be careful not to get busted out. A Grand Martingale uses the same strategy, however, you increase the wager by more than double. 

Paroli

The Paroli live roulette betting strategy is more or less the complete opposite to the Martingale. Instead of doubling after a loss, you double after a win. After three wins in a row, you reset back to the beginning. A very optimistic and popular approach with roulette.

D’Alembert 

A D’Alembert roulette betting system takes things even slower. You increase your bet by one after a loss and decrease it by one after a win. The overall goal of the D’Alembert tactic is to reduce the impact of swings.

Fibonacci

The Fibonacci roulette betting tactic might be the most conservative roulette betting strategy to use at the casino. It features the Fibonacci sequence: 1 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 – 8 – 13 – 21 – 34 – 55 – 89 (etc.) where each number is the sum of the two before it. Here you only advance in the sequence when you win. If your first bet is 1, you go to 2 when you win, then 3, then 5. If you lose, you start again at one. It’s far a less aggressive system to follow compared to the others.
